The Bivens Institute began with a shared love of music and a belief that learning an instrument should be encouraging, creative, and personal.

We are husband-and-wife musicians, teachers, owners, and the people behind every part of The Bivens Institute. From teaching lessons and creating courses to building the vision for this business, we are passionate about helping people discover the joy of making music.

Why We Started

We created The Bivens Institute because we believe music education should be about more than simply learning the right notes.

Learning an instrument can build confidence, creativity, discipline, self-expression, and a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you. We want to create a welcoming place where students can learn without feeling intimidated or afraid of making mistakes.

Our goal is to help students develop real musical skills while also discovering their own unique voice as musicians.

Our Teaching Philosophy

We believe there is talent everywhere.

Every student learns differently. Some people want to learn their favorite songs. Some want to understand music theory. Some want to improvise, write music, perform, or simply enjoy playing guitar for themselves.
